Rahshita Lowe-Watson

President

Rahshita Lowe-Watson serves as the president of the Black Child Development Institute (BCDI)–District of Columbia, where she leads with a deep commitment to advancing equity and strengthening the lives of Black children and their families. A distinguished educator with the District of Columbia Public Schools, she brings more than twenty years of experience dedicated to supporting young learners, particularly those from historically marginalized communities.

Rahshita’s leadership extends across several district and citywide initiatives. She has contributed her expertise to multiple committees focused on improving outcomes for students, families, and educators. Her work includes shaping policies and programs that reflect her vision for joyful, rigorous, and culturally grounded learning environments.

She has served on the DCPS Chancellor’s Teacher Advisory Board, providing strategic feedback on district initiatives, and continues her advocacy as a member of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Superintendent’s Advisory Council. Rahshita’s impact and excellence have earned her recognition as a Finalist for the 2025 District of Columbia Teacher of the Year.

Rahshita holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Psychology, as well as a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Bilingual/ESL from Erikson Institute in Chicago, IL. She is also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an organization that recognizes and supports key women educators worldwide.
